Kansas City, Kan. - Utah State sophomore forward Shantel Flanary and San Jose State senior Hallsie Pacheco were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) all-West Region team on Friday as voted on by the region's coaches.

Flanary is the first Aggie to earn second-team honors and only the second USU player to earn the award.

Flanary was also named the WAC's Offensive Player of the Year. She was the first USU soccer player to earn the honor. The forward was also named first-team all-WAC. The all-WAC honor was Flanary's second after earning second-team accolades last season. In 2008, Flanary earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors.

Flanary also earned her first WAC all-tournament team honor along with sophomore goalkeeper Molli Merrill.

Utah State ended the season with a 10-9-2 record. It is the fourth-straight year that the Aggies have won at least 10 matches in a season.

Pacheco was one of 10 players, three of them midfielders, chosen to the third team. She becomes the first Spartan since 1997 to earn all-region recognition, and just the third in the program's 15-year history.

Pacheco was one of seven seniors on the 2009 roster that achieved San Jose State's first regular-season WAC championship under second-year head coach Jeff Leightman. She had already earned all-conference honors for the first time in her career last month as one of four Spartan first-team selections. The central midfielder produced her first four collegiate goals, to go along with two assists, for a career-high 10 total points, fourth-most on the team. She started all 20 games, and finished her career as the Spartans' active leader with 70 games played and 46 starts.

The NSCAA awards are divided into eight regions, with the West including schools from the WAC, Big West Conference and West Coast Conference.
