Hawai'i is headed back to the Final Four for the first time since 2003 after sweeping Michigan (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) in the Regional Final Saturday night.

Kanani Danielson was named tournament Most Outstanding Player after posting 32 kills, 17 digs and six blocks over the two matches. Joining her on the all-tournament team were Aneli Cubi-Otineru, Stephanie Ferrell and Dani Mafua.

The Rainbow Wahine will face two-time defending champion Penn State (36-0) in the Final Four at 9 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla.


Hawai'i 3, Illinois 1

After dropping the first set, 12th-seeded Hawai'i knocked off No. 5-seed Illinois in four sets (21-25, 25-10, 27-25, 25-16) Friday in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament at Maples Pavilion on the campus of Stanford.

Kanani Danielson led Hawai'i with her seventh double-double of the season, tallying 21 kills and 13 digs. Stephanie Ferrell added a career-high 19 kills on .412 hitting, while Dani Mafua had her fifth double-double of the season with 51 assists and 11 digs. Brittany Hewitt had seven blocks as Hawai'i out-blocked the Illini 11-7.

Aneli Cubi-Otineru, who finished the night with 12 kills and nine digs, tallied her 1,000th career kill during the second set of the match.

The Rainbow Wahine now advance to the Elite Eight at 8:30 p.m. (PT) Saturday, Dec. 12. They will face Michigan match in a nationally-televised match on ESPNU.
