SAN JOSE STATE’S SHAVERS VERIZON WIRELESS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
San Jose State senior guard Chasity Shavers has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 7-13. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor ever for Shavers.

The Lewisville, Texas, native scored a career-high 32 points on 58 percent shooting and tied a career-high with eight rebounds in the Spartans’ monumental 68-66 road win over No. 22 California. With San Jose State trailing 25-13, Shavers scored 13 of the Spartans’ next 17 points to tie the game at 30 with 3:59 left in the first half. She scored 17 points in the first half as San Jose State overcame a 13-point first-half deficit and took a 39-36 lead into the locker room at halftime. Shavers then made four straight free throws midway through the second half to put San Jose State ahead for good and converted three more free throws in the final 34 seconds to ensure the victory. Shavers’ 32 points are the most scored by a San Jose State player in a game since the 2005 season, the win was the first over a ranked team since 1983 and it snapped an 18-game losing streak to the Bears.

Other nominees included: Jessica Van Hoogen of Boise State averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 4.5 steals as the Broncos went 1-1 on the week … Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross averaged 15.0 points and 3.5 assists as the Bulldogs went 2-0 on the week … Shaena-Lyn Kuehu of Idaho averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a pair of games … Louisiana Tech’s Adrienne Johnson averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game while shooting 54 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line as the Techsters went 1-1 on the week … Jasmine Lowe of New Mexico State finished with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists in a win over North Dakota State … Utah State’s LaCale Pringle-Buchanan scored 14 points and added five rebounds, one assist and one steal in just 23 minutes in the Aggies’ loss to Idaho State.

SAN JOSE STATE UPSETS CAL, POSTS FIRST WIN OVER RANKED TEAM SINCE 1983
Chasity Shavers scored a career-high 32 points and made three free throws in the final 34 seconds to give San Jose State a 68-66 upset of No. 22 California last Wednesday. Shavers finished 11-of-19 from the field and had eight rebounds, while Samantha Marez added 13 points. The last known time the Spartans beat a nationally-ranked opponent was Feb. 5, 1983, when San Jose State upended then-No. 17 Oregon State, 69-56, in a NorPac Conference game played in Spartan Gym.

FRESNO STATE BREAKS CENTURY MARK AGAINST SACRAMENTO STATE
Fresno State beat Sacramento State 105-57 last Tuesday for the fifth most points scored in school history. It was the first time since 1993 Fresno State has scored more than 100 points in a game, as  the Bulldogs defeated Sacramento State 105-103 in double overtime on Feb. 10, 1993.

ROSS RANKS SEVENTH IN WAC HISTORY IN THREE-POINTERS MADE
Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross currently has 221 three-pointers in her short career, good for third place all-time at Fresno State and seventh all-time in the WAC. She needs two more to move into second place at Fresno State and sixth in WAC history. At her current pace, Ross will easily break the Fresno State record of 272.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS (7-2, 0-0 WAC)
The Broncos defeated Montana State 74-68 last Wednesday before falling 83-72 at Saint Mary’s on Saturday ... In the win over Montana State, Jessica Van Hoogen scored a team-high 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting (.667) from the floor and 4-of-5 (.800) from three-point range while adding five rebounds, three assists and season-high eight steals ... In Saturday’s loss at Saint Mary’s, Tasha Harris led the team with 19 points and four steals ... Van Hoogen scored 17 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds ... With her 43 points last week, Van Hoogen moved from sixth place to fourth on the Bronco career scoring list with 1,402 points ... Harris ranks third all-time in career points with 1,457 ... The Broncos host Santa Clara on Saturday in their only game this week.
 
FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS (5-3, 0-0 WAC)
The Bulldogs defeated Sacramento State 105-57 last Tuesday and beat UNLV 63-45 on Saturday ... In the win over the Hornets, seven players reached double-digit scoring – Jaleesa Ross (14), LaShay Fears (14), Marnique Arnold (14), Taja Edwards (11), Rosie Moult (11), Hayley Munro (11) and Jeanna Furst (10) ... The Bulldogs set a home court record for assists with 30 against Sacramento State ... The 105 points scored vs. the Hornets tied the record for the fifth-most points scored by a Bulldog team ... The team drained 16 three-pointers vs. Sacramento State, which tied a school and WAC record last year’s team set against UC Santa Barbara ... Jaleesa Ross needs two three-pointers to move into second place on the school’s career list and sixth place in the WAC ... The Bulldogs play at West Virginia on Saturday in their only game this week.

HAWAI’I RAINBOW WAHINE (3-5, 0-0 WAC)
The Rainbow Wahine were idle last week ... Hawai’i ranks fourth in the WAC in field goal percentage (.411) and rebounding (38.6) ... Keisha Kanekoa ranks second in the WAC in field goal percentage (.527) and fourth in assists (3.13) ... The Rainbow Wahine play in the UNLV Desert Classic this weekend, where they will face Kansas State on Saturday and either UNLV or Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday ... Kansas State will be the fourth team on UH’s non-conference schedule that advanced to postseason play in 2008-09.

IDAHO VANDALS (1-8, 0-0 WAC)
The Vandals fell 67-56 to Portland last Friday and 73-49 at Montana on Sunday ... Jessica Graham scored a career-high 18 points against Portland ... Bianca Cheever posted team highs of nine rebounds and five assists ... In the loss to Montana, Rachele Kloke and Shaena-Lyn Kuehu had 17 points apiece ... Seven of Idaho’s 10 losses have come to teams that are ranked either first or second in their respective conferences, while Baylor is fourth in the Big 12, but ranked No. 6 in the nation ... After playing eight games in 16 days, Idaho has a full week’s break before playing at Long Beach State on Sunday in their only game this week.

LOUISIANA TECH LADY TECHSTERS (3-2, 0-0 WAC)
The Techsters defeated Western Kentucky 63-52 last Wednesday and fell 72-68 to Mississippi State on Saturday ... Against Western Kentucky, Adrienne Johnson finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season ... LA Tech ended the game on a 37-12 run ... In the loss to Mississippi State, Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds ... LA Tech out-shot the Bulldogs 49-34 percent and out-rebounded them 41-34 ... Tech has lost three games by a total of 17 points (3 vs. No. 7 LSU, 10 vs. No. 8 Baylor and 4 vs. Mississippi State) ... In its last four games, Tech has shot 42 percent from the field and held its opponents to 40 percent ... The Techsters host McNeese State on Wednesday in their only game this week.

NEVADA WOLF PACK (5-4, 0-0 WAC)
The Wolf Pack were idle last week ... Johnna Ward has scored in double figures in seven of Nevada’s nine games ... Eight of the 11 players who have seen minutes for Nevada this season have recorded at least one double-digit scoring game ... In the team’s five wins this year, Nevada is shooting 42.4 percent from the floor compared to the 32.6 percent its is shooting in its four losses ... Nevada’s 74-63 loss to UNLV marks the first time this year Nevada out-rebounded its opponent (46-37) but lost the game ... Six different players have led Nevada in scoring this season with Shavon Moore leading the team three times and Johnna Ward leading the team twice ... Nevada’s bench has outscored or tied its opponents’ bench in scoring in eight of the Pack’s nine games this season ... The Wolf Pack play at Pepperdine on Friday in their only game this week.

NEW MEXICO STATE AGGIES (4-3, 0-0 WAC)
The Aggies defeated North Dakota State 71-65 on Saturday in their only game last week ... Jasmine Lowe led four Aggies in double figures with 19 points ... Madison Spence added 13 points, Crystal Boyd added 12, including 10 in the second half, and Kaitlyn Soto dropped in 10 off the bench ... The Aggies tied their season high in steals (16), forcing their opponent into more than 20 turnovers for the fourth time this season ... The Aggies held the Bison to just 30 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes ... With the win, Darin Spence recorded his 82nd win at NM State to become the second-winningest coach in school history, passing Mike Petersen (81 wins from 1992-96) ... Spence will go for career win 400 when the team plays UTEP at home on Tuesday ... NM State concludes its rivalry week playing at New Mexico on Sunday.

SAN JOSE STATE SPARTANS (1-7, 0-0 WAC)
San Jose State upset No. 22/22 California 68-66 on the road last Wednesday, snapping an 18-game losing streak to the Golden Bears that dated back to the 1982-83 season ... It was the Spartans’ first win over a ranked team since 1983 ... Chasity Shavers scored a career-high 32 points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds ... With San Jose State trailing 25-13, Shavers scored 13 of the Spartans’ next 17 points to tie the game at 30 ... Shavers converted three more free throws in the final 34 seconds to ensure the victory ... Her 32 points are the most points scored by a San Jose State player in a game since the 2005 season ... UTAH STATE AGGIES (3-3, 0-0 WAC)
The Aggies fell 63-58 at Idaho State on Friday in their only game last week ... LaCale Pringle-Buchanan scored 14 points off the bench in just 23 minutes ... The Aggies defeated North Dakota State 58-46 on Monday, snapping a three-game losing skid ... Amber White led the team with 13 points and seven rebounds ... White has led or had a share of the lead in scoring in five of the Aggies’ eight games ... Three Aggies rank in the top 10 in the WAC in three-point shooting. White is first in the league with a .667, followed by TJ Goddard in second in the WAC, shooting .560, and Alice Coddington in seventh, shooting .385 ... As a team, USU is first in the WAC from beyond the arc (.373) ... The Aggies have made 44 three pointers so far this season ... Utah State is 3-0 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum this season ... The Aggies host Brigham Young on Friday in their only other game this week.
