DENVER - New Mexico State's Kelly Runestrand was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference swimmer of the week.
Runestrand, a junior from Bellingham, Wash. (Squalicum HS), led the Aggies in a dual meet against Arizona State on December 19 with a pair of individual top honors. Runestrand swept the breaststroke events with season-best performances in the 100 breast (1:05.66) and 200 breast (2:21.82). Her time in both events are the eighth best in the WAC this season. Runestrand also swam the second leg of the third place 200-medley relay and anchored the fourth place 400-free relay for the Aggies.
