DENVER – Fresno State junior guard Jaleesa Ross has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Ross and the fourth of her career.

Ross, a Pinole, Calif. (Pinole Valley) native, led Fresno State to a pair of road wins last week to move into second place in the WAC standings. In a 63-60 win at UC Irvine, she had 17 points, a team-high nine rebounds and two steals. She followed it up with 17 points, a career-high-tying 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals in a win at Loyola Marymount. It was Ross’ second double-double of the season and of her career. For the week, she averaged 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. With six three-pointers last week, Ross moved her career total to 213, 10 away from sixth place in the WAC and second place in the Fresno State career record books for three-pointers made.

Other nominees included: Hawai’i’s Keisha Kanekoa averaged 8.0 points and 3.7 assists in three games last week ... Louisiana Tech’s Shanavia Dowdell averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the Techsters’ close losses to No. 7 LSU and No. 8 Baylor … Shavon Moore of Nevada averaged18.0 points and 7.7 rebounds as the Wolf Pack went 1-2 on the week … New Mexico State’s Jasmine Lowe scored a career-high 29 points on 60 percent shooting in the Aggies’ 92-85 loss to New Mexico … Alice Coddington of Utah State averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 steals per game on the week.
