DENVER - Boise State's Stephanie North and Nevada's Aniesa Debaji were named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.
North, a sophomore from Klamath Falls, Ore. (Henley HS), competed at the Mizzou Invitational last weekend and made school history. North won the 100-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 50.06. Her time is a provisional NCAA qualifying mark, the first "B" cut ever achieved by a Boise State swimmer. The time was also the best in the WAC this season. North also swam a WAC season-best time in the 200 free (1:51.60) to place fifth in the event. She added an eighth place finish in the 50 free. North was part of all five relay teams with a top finish of third for the Broncos in the 400 free.
Debaji, a sophomore from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (St. Francis Xavier HS), won both the 1 and 3-meter diving events in a dual meet against Idaho last Friday. She scored 284.25 points on the 1-meter and 300.30 on the 3-meter board. Nevada swept the top three spots in both events.
Other swimmers nominated: Alyson O'Brien, Idaho; Margaret Doolittle, Nevada; and Sarah Gleason, San Diego.
