WAC Women' Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER ? Louisiana Tech’s Kamelia Stroy and Hawai?i’s Amber Kaufman have been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 9-15.

Stroy, a junior from Shreveport, La. (Northwood HS), ran two conference-best times last weekend against some of the country’s top competition at the Texas A&M Invitational. Stroy ran a WAC-best 54.95 in the 400 meter dash to take home an eighth-place finish.  The junior also had a hand in the conference-leading 4x400 relay time of 3:41.80. The time leads the WAC by six seconds. Stroy also competed in the 200 meter dash and finished with a time of 24.87, the fourth-best time in the WAC.

Kaufman, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif. (Branham HS), set an NCAA provisional mark in the high jump with a leap of 5-11.50 (1.82m) over the weekend at the Northern Arizona Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz. The mark set a new UH indoor record currently stands as a conference best. The 1.82m leap also is tied for the seventh-best jump in the nation so far this season. Kaufman is one of two UH athletes to post NCAA provisional marks this indoor season joining Annett Wichmann in the heptathlon.

Other track nominees: Boise State’s Breanna Sande, Utah State’s Erin Stratton, Idaho’s Allix Lee-Painter, Nevada’s Analisa Serrano, Fresno State's Latrisha Jordan and New Mexico State’s Jordan Veney.

Other field nominees: Boise State’s Megan Olivetti, Utah State’s Sonia Grabowska, Idaho’s KC Dahlgren, Nevada’s Constance McAlman, Fresno State's Sharon Ayala and New Mexico State’s Leah Benton.
