DENVER ? Idaho’s Paul Dittmer and Boise State’s Ryan Grinnell have been named Western Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the week, respectively, for Feb. 16-22.
Dittmer, a sophomore from Hanstedt, Germany (Gymnasium Winsen), ran a personal best and school record on Saturday at the Vandal Collegiate. He tied for the fastest time in the competition with a 7.84, but finished second on a judge’s decision. The time is an NCAA provisional mark, is tied for 13th in the NCAA and breaks his previous school record of 7.93 set two weeks ago at the Vandal Indoor. Dittmer has now run four of the conference’s five fastest hurdle races this season. Paired with his two sub-eight second times at the Vandal Indoor and his 7.99 prelim time at the Vandal Collegiate, Dittmer has run all four of the WAC’s sub-8 times in the event this season. This marks the second time in three weeks Dittmer has claimed the award.
Grinnell, a senior from Idaho Falls, Idaho (Skyline HS), won the high jump at the NAU Tune-up with a personal best of 7-1.75 (2.18M), improving on his NCAA provisional mark. The mark stands as the second-best effort in the conference this season. Grinnell also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 24-5.00 (7.16m), another top five performance in the conference. This is the first time this indoor season the senior has brought home the conference honor.
Other track nominees: Boise State’s Eric Cappelle.
Other field nominees: Idaho’s Mike Carpenter.
