DENVER ? Idaho’s Christie Gordon and Martha Hale have been named Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 16-22.
Gordon, a senior from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (Strathcona Composite HS), hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the first time in her career on Saturday, as she ran a WAC-leading 8.40 in the event in a first-place effort at the Vandal Collegiate. The time is the second-best in school history, the best in the WAC and tied for 25th in the NCAA. Paired with her 8.49 from earlier this year, Gordon has now run the two fastest races in the conference this season in the event. She is the only WAC athlete to reach the provisional standard in the event.
Hale, a freshman from Portland, Ore. (David Douglas HS), won one event and placed second in two others with a pair of personal bests. On Friday, she won the women’s indoor discus throw with a five-foot personal-best of 46.99m (154-2). On Saturday, she took second in the weight throw with a two-foot, 11-inch personal best throw of 16.14m (52-11.5) and then took second in the shot put with a toss of 13.22m (43-4.5).
