DENVER ? San Jose State’s Lauren Mar and Jessica Holden have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, respectively for Feb. 2-8.

Mar, a senior from San Francisco, Calif. (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep), propelled the Spartans to their 16th-consecutive dual victory against Fresno State last weekend, as they finished the season 16-1 in dual meets. Mar collected a pair of individual victories for 18 points in the 177-103 defeat of the Bulldogs. She first anchored the Spartan ?A’ foursome to a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the 200 medley relay. The senior then capped off the meet with wins in the 100 back and the 50 free. She registered a time of 57.58 in the 100 back, just one second off her top time of the season. Her time of 24.44 in the 50 free would be good for a top 10 mark in the conference. She finished her day by swimming the second leg of the first-place 200 freestyle relay in 24.07 with the foursome timing 1:41.97. This is the second time this year and the third time in her career she has earned the weekly conference award.

Holden, a sophomore from Fair Oaks, Calif. (Roseville HS), posted her second collegiate dual sweep of the diving events in a home victory over Fresno State. Holden led off with a winning effort on the three-meter springboard to begin the meet, scoring 244.56 points. She later won on the one-meter with a score of 221.48, on her way to contributing 18 points toward the Spartan team total. This marks the second time this season she has garnered WAC Diver of the Week honors.

Other swimming nominees included: Boise State’s Emily Irvin.
