Maroda and Fresno
State’s Morgan Melloh have
been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week,
respectively. This is the first WAC Hitter of the Week honor of the season for
Maroda and the second of her career. This is the first WAC Pitcher of the Week
honor of the season for Melloh and the sixth of her career.
Maroda, a sophomore San Bernardino,
Calif. (Cajon), was named Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces Most Valuable Player after
leading the Aggies to a perfect 6-0 season start, the best start in program
history. Maroda went 6-for-18 with four home runs, including a pair of three-run
homers. For the week, she posted a .333 batting average, a .350 on-base
percentage and a 1.056 slugging percentage. She also swiped a base and tallied
12 RBI, while only striking out once. Maroda hit a double against Ohio State that drove in the run that allowed
the Aggies to take a 3-2 lead and the eventual win.
Melloh, a sophomore from Fishers,
Ind. (Hamilton
Southeastern), went 2-0 with two complete-game shutouts. She allowed only three
hits in the opening game vs. Wisconsin and threw a one-hitter in eight
innings vs. Cal State Northridge. For the week, she posted a 0.00 earned-run
average with 24 strikeouts and just three walks.
