The Fresno State women's basketball team will make its second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance when the 13th-seeded Bulldogs take on No. 4-seed California in the first round of the California Regional on Saturday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
The Bulldogs (24-8 overall, 12-4 WAC) are making their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Fresno State is coming off its WAC Tournament title win, a 56-49 victory over Nevada Saturday in Reno, Nev. The Bulldogs swept the WAC titles after sharing the regular-season WAC championship with Louisiana Tech.
The Bulldogs are led by WAC Tournament MVP Jaleesa Ross, who averages 13.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and has 93 three-pointers this season. Hayley Munro adds 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, while Bailey Amundsen averages 10.2 points and 5.4 boards. The Bulldogs lead the nation in three-pointers per game, averaging 9.5 per game.
Cal is led by Pac-10 leading scorer Ashley Walker, who averages 19.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. The Bears were upset by USC in the semifinals of the Pac-10 Tournament last week. WAC teams are 0-2 against Cal this season, as Nevada fell 67-53 to the Bears and San Jose State lost 76-40.
The winner of the Fresno State-California game will play the winner of the Virginia/Marist game on Monday.
