College Station, Texas ? Four student-athletes represented the Western Athletic Conference at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend in College State, Texas. Hawai?i led all WAC teams with a 29th-place finish.
Hawai?i
Junior diver Emma Friesen finished 13th on the 3-meter board. Friesen just missed qualifying for the 3-meter final, placing 10th, moving into the consolation final. Friesen scored 306.30 points, good enough for 13th in the consolation final.
Nevada
Senior diver Candice Minette earned All-America honors based upon her 16th place finish on 1-meter diving board, while senior Courtney Eads placed 38th in the 200-yard butterfly.
Minette, a senior from Glendale, Ariz. placed 16th with 249.95 points in the consolation finals. In the preliminary round she totaled 278.75 to advance to the consolation finals. she becomes the first member of the Nevada swimming & diving team to earn All-America honors since 2000 when Limin Liu, Jia Lin Sun, Ping Luo, Terina Dutton and Laura Bartle grabbed All-America honors.
New Mexico State
Freshman swimmer Maria Spies recorded a 2:15.68 showing in the 200 breaststroke for 45th place. She was the first-ever Aggie to compete at the national meet.
