Tucson, Ariz.?Erica Moston led the Spartan women’s golf team with a seven-under par for her three-round total.  She won the individual title and led San Jose State to its third consecutive tournament win with a nine-shot victory at the MountainView Collegiate at the MountainView Golf Course.

For the first time since her sophomore season, Moston won an individual tournament title.  She shot a three-under 69 on Sunday, a round which included five birdies, to finish the tournament with a 209.  Her three-round total is her career best, one shot less than the 210 she had at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in late September.

Moston birdied the 15th and 16th holes and made par on holes 17 and 18 for the win.  She led the tournament with 14 birdies and in par four scoring.

“I am really happy for Erica after so many close finishes this season,” said San Jose State head coach John Dormann.  “Her play on the last four holes of the tournament showed why she was deserving of winning this tournament.”

Katrina Delen-Briones recorded her best career finish as she tied for fifth place. She shot a 71 Sunday to finish with a one-under par 215.

“Katrina had three solid rounds for us in the tournament,” said Dormann.  “She played steady golf and her contributions cannot be overlooked.”

Other Spartan players included Cristina Corpus who shot a 79 on Sunday to finish tied for 13th with a 219.  Madeleine Ziegert shot a 76 to finish with a 225 to place 33rd.  Shraddhanjali Singh rounded out the Spartan scoring with an 81 and finished 50th with a 229.

As a team, the Spartans shot a 295 in the final round.  The team led the tournament in birdies with 45, pars with 173 and par four scoring.  The three-round total of 866 is the lowest for San Jose State in more than 10 years and bests this season’s former best score by six shots, 872 at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

“This was a very good tournament for us,” said Dormann.  “The conditions were more difficult today, especially because of the wind.  We were sloppy early on and made a few more mistakes than yesterday which can be expected, especially since we may have had a slight case of nerves.

“This was a good team effort and nice to see since it had been too long between tournaments.  We now have to take this momentum and keep it going in Miami.”
