Utah State 62, San Jose State 51
LOGAN, Utah - Danyelle Snelgro topped the 1,000-point plateau as Utah State defeated San Jose State 62-51 Thursday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
With the win, USU improves to 15-13 overall, the Aggies’ most wins since the first season of USU women’s basketball in 1972-73, and 9-6 in WAC play, good for a four-way tie for third place in the WAC standings with one regular-season game remaining. The 9-6 mark is USU's best WAC record since joining the conference four years ago and its best league mark since the 2004-05 season when it had nine Big West wins. SJSU lost its 14th in a row and falls to 2-27 overall and 1-15 in WAC action.
USU shot 48 percent (25-of-52) from the field, compared to the 37 percent (17-of-46) of the Spartans. The Aggies also had a 33-29 rebounding edge. Behind the three-point arc, USU was just 1-of-8 (13 percent) while SJSU netted 6-of-12 (50 percent). The Aggies hit 11-of-19 (58 percent) at the free throw line compared to 11-of-16 (69 percent) for the Spartans.
Snelgro netted a team-high 13 points Thursday night, reaching the 1,000 career point plateau with a steal and layup at the 1:25 mark of the first half. She led a group of four players in double-figures for just the second time this season, joining the last game vs. San Jose State on Jan. 23. She becomes just the sixth member of USU’s 1,000-point club. She also had game highs of six steals and five assists.
Lydia Whitehead logged her third double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Nicole Johnson tied her season high with 10 points as well as a game-best five blocks, while Ana Pares tossed in 10 points.
SJSU’s Natalie White tallied a game-high 19 points and Sayja Sumler added 11 points.
