Utah State 89, San Jose State 77
LOGAN, Utah (AP)-- Jared Quayle scored 21 points to lead five Aggies in double figures as Utah State topped San Jose State 89-77 Saturday night.
Pooh Williams scored a career-high 17 for the Aggies (27-4, 14-2 Western Athletic). Tai Wesley, Gary Wilkinson and Tyler Newbold each added 13.
The Spartans (13-16, 6-10) were led by Adrian Oliver with 20, Robert Owens 18, Chris Oakes 13 and DaShawn Wright 10.
San Jose shot 61 percent from the field in the second half. After trailing by double digits most of the game, the Spartans got the game within striking distance, 75-71 with 4:36 to play, after Oliver dropped in three free throws.
Quayle then scored eight consecutive points for USU to stop the San Jose rally. Quayle scored 18 in the second half, hitting six of seven attempts.
The Aggies led by as many as 20 points in the first half, taking a 43-27 halftime lead.
Nevada 69, Boise State 60
BOISE, Idaho (AP)-- Brandon Fields scored 19 points and Luke Babbitt had 14 to lead Nevada to a 69-60 win over Boise State on Saturday night.
The Wolf Pack (19-11, 11-5 Western Athletic Conference) led the entire game en route to a victory that secured them the second seed heading into next week's conference tournament in Reno, Nev.
Boise State (19-11, 9-7) pulled within 62-58 when Mark Sanchez sank a pair of free throws with 1:49 left. But the Broncos, who will be the fourth seed in the tournament, failed to get any closer down the stretch.
Fields was 4-of-8 from the field and hit 8-of-10 free throws. The Wolf Pack shot 39.1 percent from the floor and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Anthony Thomas led the Broncos with 12 points, and Kurt Cunningham and Sanchez each chipped in 11 points. The Broncos shot 37 percent and struggled controlling the ball with 16 turnovers.
Idaho 59, Fresno State 56
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP)-- Mac Hopson scored 20 points Saturday night as Idaho edged Fresno State 59-56 in a Western Athletic Conference game.
Idaho trailed the entire game until Trevor Morris hit a 3-pointer with 2:12 left, giving the Vandals a 51-50 lead.
Fresno State's Nedeljko Golubovic hit a layup and free throw with 25 seconds left, narrowing Idaho's lead to 55-54.
Morris took the inbounds pass and was immediately fouled. He hit both shots, giving Idaho a 57-54 lead.
Brandon Sperling then hit an uncontested layup, but Hopson sealed the game when he hit two free throws with 13.8 seconds left.
Sylvester Seay led the Bulldogs (12-20, 3-13 WAC) with 14 points and Dwight O'Neil added 13.
The win makes the Vandals (16-14, 9-7) the third seed for the WAC tournament in Reno next week.
New Mexico State 70, Hawai?i 59
HONOLULU (AP)-- Troy Gillenwater scored 18 points and Wendell McKines added 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead New Mexico State to a 70-59 win over Hawaii on Saturday.
Gillenwater also grabbed eight rebounds as the Aggies shot 49 percent from the field. New Mexico State (16-14, 9-7 WAC) also got 13 points from Jonathan Gibson and 10 from Hernst Laroche.
Kareem Nitoto led Hawaii (13-16, 5-11 WAC) with 11 points.
The Aggies almost exclusively used a zone defense to hold the Rainbow Warriors to 32 percent shooting from the field.
