Boise State Broncos (19-11, 9-7 WAC)

Junior Anthony Thomas recorded an assist against the Wolf Pack, raising his season total to an impressive 144 assists, pushing him up the charts and breaking his previous record of 141, which he set last season ... Thomas now sits in the No. 3 spot on the all-time single season assist list and is just one shy of reaching the single season record of 145 ... for the 21st consecutive game, the Broncos had two or more players score in double-digits ... three players recorded in double-figures against Nevada ... with a win on the road against New Mexico State, it marks the first win over the Aggies when playing at the Pan American Center during the regular season ... the win not only breaks a three-game skid for the Broncos, but marks the first conference road win for Boise State since Feb. 7 when it beat San Jose State, 89-83 ... it marked just the third conference win on the road this season.

Fresno State Bulldogs (12-20, 3-13 WAC)

O’Neil also reached double figures by recording 13 points and grabbing five rebounds ... Fresno State will meet up with Hawai?i in the WAC Tournament’s first round on Tuesday.

Hawai?i Rainbow Warriors (13-16, 5-11 WAC)

Hawai?i concluded its regular-season schedule with a 70-59 loss Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center ... UH lost its fourth straight game and finished in eight place in the WAC standings ... nothing seemed to go right for UH in their final home game of the season ... UH shot just 32 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 21 times, one short of its season high ... Kareem Nitoto led the ’Bows with 11 points, while Bill Amis finished 10. Roderick Flemings, who entered the game leading UH at nearly 17 pointer per game, was held to just nine point ... it marked just the second time this season the junior did not score in double-digits ...  UH led 22-21 in the first half but were out-scored 14-3 in the final seven minutes of the half ... Idaho then nabbed an improbable third-place finish in the WAC with an improbable come-from-behind 59-56 victory over Fresno State ... the Vandals, picked ninth in preseason polls by the league’s coaches and media, erased a 12-point deficit and limited the Bulldogs to just 20 points in the second half to earn Idaho’s highest conference finish since the 1998-99 season ... at 16-14 overall, Idaho has guaranteed itself at least a .500 finish for the first time since 1998-99 ... at 9-7, the Vandals finish tied for third in the WAC standings ... Louisiana Tech play its final game of the regular season last week, dropping a 66-58 decision at Idaho ... junior Kyle Gibson answered the proverbial bell shortly after with seven straight points to pull the Bulldogs back within two 50-48 with less than five minutes to play ... it would not prove enough, however, as the Vandals finished with the win ... Gibson’s 25 points led all scorers for the night. Jefferson led the Vandals with 13 points ... it could be sweet revenge for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the first round of the 2009 WAC Tournament in the Lawlor Events Center as the Bulldogs will get a shot at the Idaho Vandals ... UTAH STATE’S OVERALL WIN STREAK COMES TO AN END, HOME STREAK STILL ALIVE

Utah State’s win streak ended at 19 games with a loss to Boise State on Feb. 19. The streak is tied for the longest in school history with the 1999-2000 team that also won 19 straight games. Before its loss to Boise State, Utah State had also won 16 straight WAC games dating back to the 2007-08 season including eight straight on the road. USU’s 16 straight WAC victories ranks second all-time in the conference. Utah holds the record for most consecutive WAC wins at 19, set from the 1997-98 to 1998-99 seasons. The Aggies currently hold the nation’s second-best home win streak in the country at 34 games. Kansas holds the top home win streak at 41 games.

NEVADA’S BABBITT AND FRESNO STATE’S GEORGE AMONG TOP FRESHMEN IN NATION

The only freshman in WAC history to earn back-to-back WAC Player of the Week honors, Luke Babbitt has opened his first season with Nevada in strong fashion, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. Babbitt has a chance to become the first Nevada freshman to lead the team in scoring since Terrance Green in 1999-00. He could also become the first freshman to pace the Pack in rebounding since Nick Fazekas averaged 7.6 rebounds per game in 2003-04.  He currently ranks fifth among the nation’s freshmen in scoring. Fresno State freshman Paul George is also among the nation’s elite freshman. George currently ranks eighth among the nation’s freshman in scoring.

USU POSTS SECOND-BEST DEFENSIVE EFFORT IN NCAA HISTORY

Utah State accomplished a rare feat Nov. 25 in its 75-49 home win against Weber State as it held the Wildcats without a field goal for the final 16:20 of the game, which according to the NCAA is the second-longest field goal drought in NCAA history. The longest stretch in NCAA history one team has held another without a field goal was on Feb. 25, 1979 when Duke held North Carolina scoreless for 20:48. For Utah State, its defensive effort against Weber State is the best since Feb. 15, 2006, when it held Idaho scoreless for 13:53, which was the third-longest scoring drought in NCAA history.  USU also had a 37-0 run against the Vandals, which is an NCAA record, and it held Idaho without a field goal for 16:01 during that game, which was the second-longest streak in NCAA history before the WSU game.

The dunk, where the freshman slashed straight to the basket and delivered an emphatic one-handed slam on two Gael defenders, beat a pair of Lebron James’ and other professional highlights for the top spot.

UTAH STATE’S WILKINSON EARNS SPOT ON NATIONAL WATCH LISTS

Utah State’s Gary Wilkinson has been named one of 50 players to headline the Naismith Trophy watch list. The watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2008-09 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T will be awarded at the 2009 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Detroit, Mich. He was also named one of 30 candidates for the 2008-09 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, which is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Year. Wilkinson, a 6-9 senior forward from South Jordan, Utah is the only player from the Western Athletic Conference to be selected for both the Naismith and Lowe’s CLASS award.  Entering the 2008-09 season, Wilkinson was voted as the WAC’s preseason Player of the Year by the media after earning second-team all-WAC honors as a junior.
