DENVER ? Fresno State’s Latrisha Jordan and Utah State’s Sonia Grabowska have been named Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 6 ? 12.
Jordan, a freshman from Ceres, Calif. (Central Valley HS), ran to her third NCAA regional qualifying time in the 400m hurdles at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., last weekend. Her time of 59.11 was good for second place among the collegiate competitors and second-best finish of the season. She nearly surpassed her season-best time of 58.69 at the Cal-Nevada Championships on March 29. Jordan also anchored the Fresno State 4x400 relay squad that finished in first place with a season-best time of 3:46.43. This is her second-career WAC Athlete of the Week honor for Jordan.
Grabowska, a sophomore from Warsaw, Poland (VIII Lo Wtadystaw), set a new Utah State school record, taking second place in the pole vault among the invite only competitors, clearing 13-09.75 (4.21m.) Grabowska’s record-setting height is also a new personal-best, a new WAC-best and a NCAA regional qualifying mark. She broke the old USU record of 4.20m that was set in 2000. The sophomore now holds both indoor and outdoor pole vaulting records at the school. This marks the first time Grabowska has earned the WAC Outdoor Athlete of the Week award.
