FRESNO, Calif. - When Fresno State defeated first-place Nevada 1-0 in nine innings Friday night, Morgan Melloh notched her 800th career strikeout, while head coach Margie Wright earned her 300th WAC win.
Melloh struck out Nevada's Brittany Puzey to lead off the top of the sixth inning to reach the milestone. The sophomore, who improved to 21-13 on the season with the victory, became just the third Bulldog and fourth WAC pitcher ever to have 800 strikeouts. She is also the first sophomore to do so. The other two Bulldogs are Jamie Southern (1,321) and Amanda Scott (851). Melloh ended with 14 on the night, the most against Nevada all season, and is now just two strikeouts shy of tying Ali Andrus-Sagas of Utah for third all-time in the WAC with 809.
Wright picked up her 300th WAC victory, becoming the first WAC coach to ever to reach the milestone. Wright is also the NCAA's all-time winningest coach with more than 1,300 career victories.
