DENVER ? Fresno State’s Val-Pierre Dai’Re and Louisiana Tech’s Larry Jones have been named Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 20 ? 26.
Dai’Re, a junior from Merced, Calif. (Buhach Colony HS), had a career day, setting a personal-best time of 51.00 in the 400m hurdles. He easily met the NCAA Regional qualifying standard as his time was good for second-best in the WAC. He also took second, timing a season-best 14.31 in the 110m hurdles, just .01 seconds off the NCAA Regional qualifying standard. This is the first time this year the junior has been honored with the WAC weekly award.
Jones, a sophomore from Ruston, La. (Ruston HS), finished fifth in the discus at the Penn Relays on Saturday with a NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 180-10 (54.86m). This marks the second time this season he has hit a NCAA Regional mark, as he threw for 185-4 (56.49m) on April 17. This marks the second time this season Jones has been awarded Athlete of the Week honors.
