DENVER - Fresno State's Bhavik Patel and Idaho's Teo Poplawski have been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for March 30-April 5.
Patel, a freshman from Bakersfield, Calif. (Bakersfield HS), notched his first top-10 finish of the year with a tie for fourth place at the Western Intercollegiate, March 29-31. Patel posted a four-over 214 (68-76-70). His 68 in the first round tied him for the tournament lead and was his best round of the year. The Bulldogs finished in a tie for second place in the 18-team field that also included Nevada and San Jose State.
Poplawski, a freshman from Williston, Vt. (International Junior Golf Academy), placed sixth, posting her best finish of the year, at the Anteater Invitational, March 30-April 1. Poplawski shot a nine-over 222 (78-70-74) to help the Vandals to a fourth-place finish in the 14-team field that included WAC rival Nevada. Her second round total of 70 was her best 18-hole score of the year.
The other women's nomination was Nevada senior Melanie De Leon.
There were no other men's nominations.
