WAC Baseball Players of the Week Announced

DENVER ? Fresno State shortstop Isacc Vivas and New Mexico State right-handed pitcher Daniel Simon have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for May 11-17.

 

Vivas, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (McLane HS), helped the Bulldogs to a four-game sweep on the road against Sacramento State last week. Vivas batted .615 (8-for-13) with six runs scored, four doubles, one home run, one RBI, two walks and a stolen base. Vivas also helped Fresno State turn several key double plays during the week and had a perfect fielding percentage. His home run in the series finale proved to be the game-winning run in a 7-6 victory.

 

Simon, a junior from Susanville, Calif. (Lassen HS), picked up his second shutout of the season and his first complete game shutout as he threw 7.0 innings against Louisiana Tech. Simon faced 26 batters and struck out five, while walking only one. He did not give up a single run as the Aggies defeated Louisiana Tech 16-0. With the complete game shutout, Simon improves to 9-1 on the year.

 

The other hitter of the week nominations were Hawai?i junior outfielder Christian Johnson, Louisiana Tech senior outfielder Patrick Thomas, New Mexico State junior infielder Mike Sodders and San Jose State junior shortstop Kyle Bellows.

 

The other pitcher of the week nominations were Fresno State senior Holden Sprague, Hawai?i freshman Matt Sisto, Louisiana Tech freshman Jeb Stefan and San Jose State senior Jack Adams.
