LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's volleyball program received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the
2008-2009 season it was announced today. Overall, 409 NCAA teams received the academic team award, including 71 Division I programs.

"This award is a nice tribute to our academic advisors, lead by Amy Crosbie, and her crew of tutors," USU head coach Grayson DuBose said.  "Our team really embodies the spirit of the term student-athlete, they work hard both on the court and in the classroom and we are proud of their efforts."

During the 2008-09 academic year, Utah State's volleyball team had a 3.378 cumulative grade-point average, while eight of its student-athletes received Academic all-WAC honors.

The AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated in 1993 to honor collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the academic year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
