DENVER – Hawai‘i senior outside hitter Aneli Cubi-Otineru has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 14-20. It is the first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor  for Cubi-Otineru.

The Hale’iwa, O‘ahu native tallied 18 kills, 20 digs, five blocks and three service aces in back-to-back sweeps of No. 25 Pepperdine last week. Cubi-Otineru averaged 3.00 kills, 3.33 digs, 0.83 blocks and 0.50 service aces to lead the Rainbow Wahine to their fourth and fifth straight victories. In the second match, she was one kill shy of a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 12 digs. Hawai’i is now 7-2 this season in matches against ranked teams.

Other nominees included: Sadie Maughan of Boise State led the WAC in hitting percentage (.412) last week, finishing with nine kills and five blocks in a loss to Utah Valley … Fresno State’s Baylee Platt averaged 3.22 kills and 2.00 blocks as the Bulldogs went 1-2 on the week … Lori Hunsucker of Louisiana Tech collected 45 digs in three matches last week … Nevada’s Lindsay Baldwin was named to the Stockton Hilton Invitational all-tournament team after averaging 2.45 kills on .328 hitting to go along with 1.00 blocks per set as the Pack went 1-2 … Katie Astle was named the all-tournament team of the Kent State/Mizuno Open after averaging 1.39 kills on .419 hitting and 1.09 blocks as the Aggies went 2-1 at the tournament.
