TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES
Boise State Broncos
The Broncos placed first in their second consecutive meet, which was also their second meet of the season ... they scored 25 team points, with the second place team, Idaho State, coming in with a distant 59 points ... Sawyer Bosch and Shannon Porter were each honored as WAC Cross Country Athletes of the Week after placing third and second, respectively at the Bob Firman Invitational in Eagle, Idaho ... both teams will travel to Salem, Ore., this coming weekend to compete at the Willamette Invitational on Oct. 3.
Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State took on the Roadrunner Invitational last week in Bakersfield, Calif. ... sophomore Stevie Brumwell led the Bulldogs in the 5K with a career-best in 19:23.40 to take 14th among the 96 competitors ... Kelsey Smith, a freshman, filled in the No. 2 spot with a time of 19:32.10 for 17th in her first collegiate race ... junior Pamela Cruz ran a 20:21.70 for 22nd overall and third for the Bulldogs ... this week, Fresno State travels to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine
Hawai‘i competed at the Chaminade Invitational last week and finished in fourth place as a team ... individually, Shelby Yoakum led the team with an 18th place finish with a time of 21:23 ... Kaitlyn Yamamoto finished closely behind Yoakum with a time of 21:24 to finish 19th ... Lauren Opsal placed 23rd with a time of 22:50 ... this week, Hawai‘i will compete at the Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Oregon.
Idaho Vandals
Idaho did not compete last week ... the team prepares for the Willamette Invitational this Saturday in Salem, Oregon.
Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech had last week off ... the team will compete this Saturday at the Centenary Invitational in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Nevada Wolf Pack
Nevada finished 19th out of 22 teams at the 6K Stanford Invitational last week … freshman Samantha Diaz established a 6K PR of 23:26 and finished 95th … Nevada will host the WAC Open Preview on Oct. 10 at Rancho San Rafael Park for Nevada’s next meet.
New Mexico State Aggies
New Mexico State had the week off but will compete this week ... the Aggies will travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to participate in the Cowboy Jamboree.
San Jose State Spartans
San Jose State did not compete last week ... the team will compete in the Willamette Invitational, along with two other WAC teams ... the Willamette Invitational will take place in Salem, Oregon on Saturday.
Utah State Aggies
Utah State had the week off to prepare for this week’s meet at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
WAC NOTES
BOISE STATE’S BOSCH AND PORTER NAMED CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Boise State’s Sawyer Bosch and Shannon Porter have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 21-27.
Bosch, a junior from Portland, Oregon (Borah HS), was Boise State’s top finisher at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park last week. Bosch crossed the finish line in third place overall out of 68 runners with an 8K time of 25:44.72. Bosch’s time helped the Broncos to the team title.
Porter, a freshman from Hockinson, Wash. (Hockinson HS), placed second out of 74 competitors at the Bob Firman Invitational. Porter placed second with a 5K time of 18:05.47, helping her team to a third place finish.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2009 WAC Cross Country Championship travels to Reno, Nevada. This year’s championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Rancho San Rafael Park. Utah State swept both the men’s and women’s championships last year.

NCAA REGIONALS
The 2009 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country, Saturday, Nov. 14. WAC teams will be represented in three locations. The West Region will be held in Eugene, Ore. (University of Oregon). The Mountain Region will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. (University of New Mexico), while Louisiana Tech will be the lone team in the South Central Regional (Baylor) in Waco, Texas.
