DENVER – Idaho’s Markus Geiger and Fresno State’s Roxanne Sellick have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Aug. 30-Sept. 6.
Geiger, a sophomore from Bad Neustadt, Germany (Rhoen-Gymnasium Bad Neustadt), cruised to victory in the Clash of the Inland Northwest with a time of 20:10.0 on the 6K course. He won the race by a 15-second margin and cut 10 full seconds off his time from last year’s 15th-place finish. The event victory is the first for the Vandal sophomore, whose previous high finish was his fourth-place performance at the 2008 WAC Cross Country Championships.
In her first meet back from a redshirt season, Sellick, a senior from Fresno, Calif. (Bullard HS), won the Nevada Twilight with a time of 15:18 on the 4K course. She won the race by more than 10 seconds over competitors from Stanford, Nevada, UC Irvine and Shasta College.
