DENVER - San
Jose State's Heather Denman and Hawai'i's Hannah Bocksnick were named the
Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference swimmer and diver of the week,
respectively, for Jan. 11-18.
Denman, a sophomore
from Brookeville, Md. (Sherwood HS), won all three individual events she
competed in and led off the winning 200 medley relay in a pair of victories against
UC Davis and Pacific on Sunday. Denmam
opened the meet by helping the relay team to a time of 1:45.90, their
second-fastest of the season and eighth fastest all-time. She then won the 100 backstroke in 55.23
seconds before winning the 200 backstroke by more than 10 seconds (2:00.00). Denman then added a win in the 100 butterfly
(55.75). All three individual times
solidified her hold as the WAC's top swimmer in those events.
Bocksnick, a freshman
from Edmonton, Canada (National Sport School), won both springboard events at
the Rainbow Diving Invite last week.
Bocksnick won the 1-meter with a score of 279.60 and the 3-meter with a
score of 331.80, narrowly outscoring her teammate in both events.
