New Mexico State 71, Hawai‘i
HONOLULU (AP)-- Jahmar Young hit an 18-foot jumper with 0.9 seconds left to give New Mexico State a 71-69 victory over Hawaii on Thursday night.
Young finished with 26 points on 11-of-23 shooting for the Aggies (12-7, 5-1 Western Athletic Conference). They also got 19 points from Jonathan Gibson, 10 points and 12 rebounds from Wendell McKines and 12 points and nine rebounds from Hamidu Rahman.
Roderick Flemings led the Rainbow Warriors (9-10, 2-4) with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
After Young made an 8-footer to give the Aggies a 67-66 lead with 1:08 left, Gibson sank two free throws to make it 69-66. Hawaii's Hiram Thompson tied the game with a 3-pointer with 12 seconds to play before Young hit his game-winner.
Hawaii held a 40-28 halftime lead and led by as many as 14, but the Aggies opened the second half on a 17-2 run to pull ahead 45-42.
San Jose State 87, Louisiana Tech 76
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)-- Adrian Oliver scored a career-high 39 points, lifting San Jose State to an 87-76 victory over Louisiana Tech on Thursday night.
The Spartans (10-8, 3-3) snapped the Bulldogs' 10-game winning streak and handed them their first WAC loss of the season.
Chris Oakes had 16 points for the Spartans while Robert Owens scored 12.
Kyle Gibson led Louisiana Tech (17-3, 5-1) with 22 points, only two of those coming in the first half when he got into early foul trouble. Olu Ashaolu added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Oliver was one point short of the San Jose State single-game scoring record of 40 set by Wally Rank on Jan. 3, 1980 against Sacramento State. Oliver's 39 points surpassed his previous career high of 37, set last February against Boise State.
Utah State 69, Fresno State 43
FRESNO, Calif. (AP)-- Brian Green scored a season-high 17 points and made five 3-pointers as Utah State defeated Fresno State 69-43 on Thursday night.
Jared Quayle added 13 points for Utah State (14-6 overall, 4-2 Western Athletic Conference). The defending WAC champions won their fourth straight.
Greg Smith had 12 points and eight rebounds for Fresno State (10-10, 3-3), which played most of the game without leading scorer Paul George. The sophomore forward sprained his ankle in the first half and didn't return.
Utah State took advantage of George's absence to hold Fresno State to a season-low point total. It was the Bulldogs' third straight loss.
