San Jose State 58, Idaho 53
San Jose State snapped an 18-game WAC losing streak with a 58-53 win over Idaho Saturday. With the win, the Spartans improve to 5-13 overall and 1-4 in WAC play. Idaho drops to 4-14 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Both teams shot 39 percent from the field on the game, but the Vandals out-rebounded SJSU 35-29.
Samantha Marez led SJSU with 16 points, followed by Palagi Atoe with 13.
Rachele Kloke paced Idaho with a game-high 19 points, while Shaena Kuehu added 11.
Fresno State 71, Louisiana Tech 61
Fresno State won its seventh straight game and improved to 6-0 in the WAC and 15-5 overall after beating Louisiana Tech 71-61 on Saturday evening at the Save Mart Center in front of a crowd of 3,449. The Lady Techsters dropped to 12-5 and 3-2 in conference.
The seven-game win streak ties the Fresno State school record for the second-longest win streak in school history. Three other teams have won seven straight games.
Fresno State shot 42 percent from the floor and only turned the ball over 12 times while forcing 19 LA Tech turnovers. Louisiana Tech out-rebounded Fresno State 43-34.
Jaleesa Ross scored a game-high 31 points, including six three-pointers, and added six rebounds and four assists. Hayley Munro had 11 points and five rebounds, while Joh-Teena Filipe led the Bulldogs in rebounding with 10. Emma Andrews came off the bench to score nine points.
Adrienne Johnson led a group of four Lady Techsters in double-digit scoring, tallying 18 points. Shanavia Dowdell and Whitney Jones added 11 apiece, and Tarkeisha Wysinger finished with 10. Dowdell also pulled down 15 boards for her WAC-leading ninth double-double of the season.
New Mexico State 56, Utah State 55
Jasmine Lowe hit two free throws with nine seconds remaining to give New Mexico State a 56-55 road victory over Utah State at the Spectrum Center Saturday afternoon.
Utah State's Alice Coddington drove the length of the floor in the final seconds but her layup attempt from the left side danced off of the rim.
The road win stopped the Aggies' three-game losing streak. As a result, NM State improves to 13-7 on the year and evens its record at 3-3 in the WAC. Utah State fell to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in league play with the loss.
NMSU scored 23 points off of 23 USU turnovers but the home team bench outscored NM State's reserves 17-2. Both teams made 18 shots from the field with NMSU making 29 percent (18-of-62) and Utah State hitting 32 percent (18-of-57).
Crystal Boyd notched her sixth double-double of the season with a game-high 23 points and 11 boards.
Amber White led Utah State with 18 points, including 14 in the second half, while Coddington added 13 for Utah State.
Boise State 73, Hawai'i 64
Hawai’i led for most of the second half until Boise State made a late run, beating the Rainbow Wahine 73-64 Saturday night at Taco Bell Arena.
With the win, Boise State improves to 13-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the Rainbow Wahine fall to 8-12 on the season and 2-5 in WAC play with the loss.
Hawai'i out-shot the Broncos 38-32 percent, but Boise State out-rebounded the Rainbow Wahine 46-42.
Jessica Van Hoogen and Tasha Harris scored 16 points each to pace the Broncos. Rebecca Kepilino added 12 points, while Janie Bos and Julia Marshall finished with 10 apiece.
Breanna Arbuckle scored a game-high 16 points and added five rebounds, and Dita Liepkalne had 13 points and five rebounds.
