Utah State 60, Idaho 48
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP)-- Jared Quayle scored 16 points and Utah State defeated Idaho 60-48 Saturday night, giving Aggies coach Stew Morrill his 500th victory as a Division I coach.
Morrill is 500-235 (.680) in 24 seasons as a Division I head coach. This is his 12th season at Utah State.
Tai Wesley dominated the paint for the Aggies (15-6, 5-2 Western Athletic), scoring 11 points and grabbing six rebounds while Brady Jardine added 10 points and six boards. Quayle had seven rebounds as Utah State held a 35-23 advantage on the glass.
Utah State shot 50 percent from the field for the game, while its defense held Idaho to 18.2 percent in the second half.
Kashif Watson led Idaho (8-9, 1-5) with 16 points. The Vandals have lost five straight.
Louisiana Tech 65, Hawai‘i 60
Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Magnum Rolle registered a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds as he helped lead the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to a 65-60 win over the Hawaii Warriors in Western Athletic Conference action at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Also posting a double-double for the Bulldogs (18-3, 6-1 WAC) was Jamel Guyton with 14 points and 11 boards, followed by Kyle Gibson with 19 points, seven assists and five boards as the team won for the 11th time in the last 12 outings.
The Warriors (9-11, 2-5), losers of two straight and four of the last five, were paced by Brandon Adams with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Roderick Flemings tacked on 17 points in the setback.
The teams played tight in the first half and, despite shooting just 1-of-8 behind the three-point line and 1-of-3 at the charity stripe, Hawaii was still behind by just a single point at the break, 31-30.
In the second half LaTech led by as many as nine points with just under seven minutes remaining, but Gibson had his troubles at the free-throw line late to make things interesting, before the Bulldogs held on for the five-point victory.
LaTech finished the night shooting just 13-of-22 at the charity stripe and 2- of-10 beyond the arc while picking up the sixth conference win in seven tries.
Fresno State 87, Nevada 77
FRESNO, Calif. (AP)-- Greg Smith had 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as Fresno State held off Nevada for an 87-77 victory on Saturday night.
Mike Ladd added 14 points, and Brandon Sperling had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Bulldogs (11-10, 4-3 Western Athletic Conference), which snapped a three-game losing streak.
Luke Babbitt scored 29 points for Nevada (12-8, 4-3), including 10 in a row as the Wolf Pack trimmed a 17-point deficit to five with 3:43 remaining.
But Smith's three-point play put Fresno State ahead 78-70 with 3:20 left, and Nevada got no closer than seven the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs played without leading scorer Paul George, who sprained his right ankle in Thursday's loss against Utah State. The sophomore forward could miss up to three weeks, coach Steve Cleveland said.
San Jose State 93, New Mexico State 84
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)-- Mac Peterson scored a career-high 25 points and San Jose State defeated New Mexico State 93-84 in Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday night.
Adrian Oliver added 22 points and five assists. San Jose State (11-8, 4-3) set a season-high for 3-pointers making 12 of 20 (60.0 percent).
Robert Owens scored 15 points and Justin Graham and Chris Oakes added 13 points apiece for the Spartans, who were coming off an 87-76 win over first-place Louisiana Tech on Thursday.
Jahmar Young had a career-high 34 points for New Mexico State (12-8, 5-2), which went into the night tied with Louisiana Tech for the conference lead.
The Aggies held a 56-44 lead early in the second half before the Spartans went runs of 13-0 and 17-5 to take a nine-point led into the final five minutes.
Spartans starting forward C.J. Webster missed his fourth straight game with an injury to his right eye.
