DENVER – Utah State’s Brian McKenna and Boise State’s Zacharias Arnos were named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of January 18-24.
McKenna, a sophomore from Farmington, Utah (Viewmont HS), ran a personal-best time of 8:32.67 (converted from 8:35.37 for track size) to win the 3,000 meters at the Washington State Cougar Invitational in Pullman, Wash. The sophomore’s time leads the WAC so far this season.
Arnos, a senior from Nicosia, Greece (Archbishop Mauarios III Lyceum), earned two first-place finishes in the BSU Duals in Nampa, Idaho. The senior posted an NCAA Provisional mark of 51-0.25 (15.55m) to win the triple jump, and leaped a distance of 24-1.5 (7.35m) to claim the long jump title. Both marks rank first in the WAC.
Other track nominees included: Boise State’s Paul Robertson, Idaho’s Paul Dittmer and Louisiana Tech’s Matt Wolf.
Other field nominees included: Idaho’s Lucas Pope and Utah State’s Clint Silcock.
