Verizon Wireless WAC Women' Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Louisiana Tech’s Antoinette Cobb and Idaho’s Mykael Bothum were named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of January 18-24.

Cobb, a senior from Weyanoke, La. (Barton County CC), won the 60-meter hurdles at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 8.42 seconds. In addition to her success in the hurdles, Cobb posted a time of 7.57 seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter dash. She elected not to run in the 60m dash finals.

Bothum, a senior from Hermiston, Ore. (Hermiston HS), won the shot put at the Cougar Indoor in Pullman, Wash., as she uncorked a throw of 52-9.25 (16.08m). The throw is an NCAA Provisional qualifier and is the 10th-best in the NCAA so far this year. Bothum’s mark leads the WAC by more than a seven-foot margin in the event.

Other track nominees included: Boise State’s Destiny Gammage, Idaho’s Lauren Schaffer, Nevada’s Gina Deckard, New Mexico State’s Courtney Schultz and Utah State’s Ashlee Cannon.

Other field nominees included: Boise State’s Mele Vaisima, Louisiana Tech’s Tierah Hall, Nevada’s Jalessa Jeffery, New Mexico State’s Jordan Veney and Utah State’s Shannon Prince.
