Louisiana Tech 74, Idaho 71 (OT)
Jasmine Bendolph hit a game-tying three-pointer with eight seconds to play in regulation eventually sending Louisiana Tech to a 74-71 overtime win over Idaho Saturday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.
With Tech trailing 60-57 after two free throws by Shaena Kuehu with 17 seconds to play, Lady Techster head coach Teresa Weatherspoon called a timeout to set up the final play and her sophomore point guard came through in the clutch.
Bendolph took a pass from Shanavia Dowdell and buried the game-tying trey from 22-feet out, sending her team into the extra period as Idaho's Yinka Olorunnife missed a game-winning attempt at the buzzer.
With the win, Tech improves to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in the WAC. Idaho falls to 4-16 on the year, 2-5 in conference play.
For the game, Tech hit 53 percent (28-of-53) of its field goals, while Idaho converted on only 36 percent (25-of-70). The Vandals became the first WAC team this year to out-rebound Tech, holding a 41-37 advantage on the boards.
Dowdell led the Lady Techsters with 22 points and 11 rebounds, her 12th double double of the season and sixth in seven league games.
Tarkeisha Wysinger, starting in place of the injured Whitney Jones, scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds while playing all 45 minutes. Bendolph added 13 points and Adrienne Johnson chipped in with 10 points.
The Vandals were led by Yinka Olorunnife with 17 points and nine rebounds. Kuehu and Rachele Kloke 16 points each for Idaho, and Kanisha Bello tallied 13.
Fresno State 68, San Jose State 31
Fresno State defeated San Jose State 68-31 Saturday at the Events Center. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 17-5 overall and 8-0 in WAC. The Spartans fall to 5-15 on the year and 1-6 in conference play.
Fresno State has won nine straight games, tying the school record for consecutive wins in a season. The 8-0 start is also the best start to conference play in school history.
The Bulldogs shot 44 percent from the field on the game and held the Spartans to 28 percent shooting. Fresno State also used a full court trap all evening that caused San Jose State problems, forcing them into 27 turnovers while Fresno State had only 13.
Emma Andrews led Fresno State with 19 points, while Jaleesa Ross had 18 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
San Jose State was led by Chasity Shavers with 13 points.
Nevada 64, New Mexico State 60
Nevada erased a 21-point halftime deficit as the team came from behind to beat New Mexico State on the road 64-60 Saturday. With the win Nevada improves to 12-9 overall and 6-1 in WAC play, while New Mexico State falls to 13-8 overall on the year and 3-4 in the conference.
The win marked the first time this year Nevada trailed at halftime but won the game. For the game, the Pack shot 44 percent (27-of-57) from the floor, compared to the 40 percent of the Aggies.
Tahnee Robinson led Nevada with 19 points, while Shavon Moore added 11. Kayla Williams led the team with 10 rebounds, followed by Marianne Lombardi with nine.
Jasmine Lowe paced NM State with 17 points, while Crystal Boyd added 16 and Madison Spence finished with 14. Boyd also pulled down 10 boards for a double-double.
Boise State 70, Utah State 63
Boise State rallied from six points down with 8:50 remaining to defeat Utah State 70-63 in a WAC game at Taco Bell Arena Saturday. Boise State improves to 14-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while Utah State drops to 11-10 on the year and 3-5 in league.
Boise State shot 43 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line on the game. Utah State hit 47 percent from the field, 36 percent from downtown and 56 percent from the foul line.
Rebecca Kepilino scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as she recorded her fourth consecutive double-figure scoring game. Tasha Harris scored 15 points, while Melissa Rima finished with 10 points and Janie Bos added 10 points, six boards and two assists.
Amber White was one of three Aggies in double-digit points with 13. Lydia Whitehead added 11 points and four boards followed by Banna Diop with a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.
