DENVER - New Mexico State's Kelly Conrad and San Jose State's Amy Kilby were named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.
Conrad, a junior from Lake Stevens, Wash. (Lake Stevens HS), helped direct the Aggies to a win over Idaho on Jan. 2 with two individual top honors. Conrad swept the sprint freestyle events winning both the 50 free (24.65) and 100 free (52.77) at the meet. It was the second consecutive meet that she won both events. Conrad was also the anchor for the winning 400-freestyle relay (3:33.93).
Kilby, a freshman from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Putnam City North HS), was the only Spartan diver that competed in a pair of road meets. She first turned in a second-place finish on the three-meter board (225.90) and a third-place effort on the one-meter board (232.87) in a 160-135 dual victory at Cal State Bakersfield on Jan. 2. At the University of San Diego Relay Invitational on Sunday, she produced a pair of one-meter wins to help the Spartans to a first-place showing among three squads. Kilby broke the modern-day six-dive school record for the one-meter event of 276.75, with a 280.65 score the first time around. She then bettered her own standard later in the afternoon, totalling 286.05, the fourth best score by a WAC diver this year.
Other swimmers nominated: Kirsten Trammell, San Jose.
Other divers nominated: Mariesa Cloud, New Mexico State.
