Boise State 3, Utah State 2
Boise State earned a thrilling 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 15-7) victory Saturday over WAC opponent Utah State. With the win, the Broncos improve to 16-5 on the year and 3-3 in WAC play, while the Aggies fall to 14-4 on the year and 2-3 in the conference.
The Broncos tallied 63 kills and a .216 hitting percentage compared to the 54 kills and .161 hitting percentage of Utah State. The Broncos racked up 73 digs in the match, while USU tallied 64 digs. The Aggies out-blocked Boise State 13-10.
Leading the Broncos' offensive efforts was Alisha Young, who racked up 17 kills on .342 hitting. Sadie Maughan and Cailin Fellows each added 13 kills. Breann Nesselhuf led the team with a career-best four service aces, 54 assists and seven blocks, while Amanda Remy racked up a career-high 25 digs.
The Aggies were led by Liz McArthur, who had a match-high 20 kills and 11 digs, while Shantell Durrant added 11 kills on .455 hitting to go with eight blocks.
New Mexico State 3, Fresno State 1
New Mexico State rallied from one set down to claim a 3-1 victory at Fresno State inside the Save Mart Center Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Aggies improve to 4-1 in the WAC and move to 10-9 overall. Fresno State falls to 2-4 in the conference and 7-10 overall on the year.
NM State hit .303, recording 61 kills against just 17 errors. On the other side of the net, the Bulldogs posted 46 kills versus 29 miscues. The Aggies notched 72 digs while the Bulldogs tallied 61. The Aggies out-blocked Fresno State 13-7 in the match.
Jennah DeVries tallied a match-high 53 assists while adding four kills and seven digs. Kayleigh Giddens led the team with 25 kills, while Kelsey Brennan added 11 kills. Kelsi Phillips led the defense with a match-high 22 digs.
Lauren Berger and Marissa Brand led the Bulldogs with 11 kills apiece in the match, while Kelly Mason topped the Fresno State defense with 21 digs.
San Jose State 3, Louisiana Tech 0
San Jose State swept past Louisiana Tech 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 Saturday at Spartan Gym. With the win, the Spartans improve to 8-12 on the year and 3-4 in the WAC. LA Tech falls to 10-10 overall and 0-5 in WAC play.
The Spartans finished with 52 kills on .346 hitting, compared to the 42 kills on .230 hitting of Louisiana Tech. SJSU also out-blocked the Lady Techsters 8-3, and finished with 11 more digs (47-36).
Alex Akana led the Spartans with 13 kills on .455 hitting, while Hanah Blume, Taylor Japhet, and Briana Amian all had eight kills.
Kara Jones paced the Lady Techsters with 13 kills on .407 hitting.
Idaho 3, Nevada 1
Idaho defeated Nevada 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 27-25, 25-16) in Memorial Gym Saturday night to get its third win in seven days. With the win, the Vandals improve to 9-9 on the season and 4-3 in WAC play. The loss drops the Wolf Pack to 9-9 on the year and 3-2 in the WAC.
The Vandals hit .207 for the match, while Nevada hit .155. The Wolf Pack held a slim advantage in kills (50-48), but Idaho committed eight fewer errors, and had 16.5 total blocks, compared to just two for Nevada.
Jenny Feicht finished with 40 assists for the Vandals, and also had five blocks. Allison Walker led Idaho with 13 kills, while Alicia Milo finished with 12 and Kelsey Taylor had nine to go along with eight blocks.
Kylie Harrington led the Wolf Pack with 17 kills, while libero Nicole Link finished with 14 digs.
