DENVER - Louisiana Tech's Matt Wolfe and Utah State's Stephanie Burt have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference men and women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 6-12.
Wolfe, a sophomore, ran a career-best four-mile race, recording a time of 20:09 at the Asics McNeese State Cowboy Stampede on Oct. 9, in Lake Charles, La. Wolfe's performance helped lead the Bulldogs to a tie-breaker win over LSU, giving them a second-place finish in a field of eight teams. The Bossier City, La., native has led Louisiana Tech in both meets this season, and has led them in three consecutive meets dating back to last year's WAC championships, where he finished 36th overall.
Burt, a sophomore, helped the Aggies to a second-place finish at the Idaho State Open on Oct. 9 in Pocatello, Idaho. Burt covered the 4K course in a time of 15:59, which was good enough for fourth-place overall. Burt was the only Utah State runner to finish in the top five of the race. It was the first time Burt was the top finisher for the Aggies in her career.
