LOGAN, Utah - Utah State hosts Hawai‘i in a nationally-televised WAC volleyball match on ESPNU at 8 p.m. (MT) this Monday, Oct. 25. It is the fourth of five WAC volleyball matches to air on the network this season.
Utah State is 15-6 on the season and 3-5 in the WAC after defeating Louisiana Tech (3-0) and losing to New Mexico State (3-0) at home last weekend. USU is led by junior outside hitter Liz McArthur who is hitting .240 and averaging 4.27 kills, 1.89 digs, 0.42 blocks and 0.44 service aces per set. Sophomore opposite side hitter Shay Sorensen is hitting .256 and averaging 2.26 kills and 0.76 blocks per set, while senior setter Chelsea Fowles is hitting .331 and averaging 9.98 assists, 2.11 digs, 0.93 kills, 0.68 blocks and 0.33 service aces per set. As a team, Utah State is hitting .236 on the year as compared to a .181 hitting percentage for its opponents.
Hawai'i, who is ranked No. 4 in the country in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, is 18-1 and 8-0 in WAC play after winning at Boise State (3-0) in its last match Saturday. The Rainbow Wahine are 4-0 on the road this year and are led by junior outside hitter Kanani Danielson who is hitting .306 and averaging 4.57 kills, 2.69 digs and 0.58 blocks per set. Hawai'i is hitting .274 on the season and holding its opponents to a .134 hitting percentage. UH returns four starters and seven letterwinners from last year's team that went 32-3 overall including a perfect 16-0 in WAC play. Hawai'i lost to Penn State in four sets in the national semifinals last year to end its season.
