DENVER - New Mexico State's Arthur Surreaux and Boise State's Elyse Edwards have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Month for September.

Surreaux, a senior from Sainte-Adresse, France, was crowned champion in each of the two tournaments he participated in for the month of September.  He took the singles and doubles championships at the Aggie Invite, Sept. 10-12, while also claiming the singles title at the Baylor Intercollegiate Invitational the following weekend, Sept. 24-26. Surreaux faced nationally ranked No. 22 Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M in the championship match, defeating him 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 to win the singles main draw "A" bracket. Dadamo was the No. 3 seed in the bracket of 64. Surreaux beat out players from the Big XII, Big Ten, ACC and SEC en route to the championship title. He is currently 10-0 in singles matches and is 6-1 in doubles matches over the course of the two tournaments he has appeared in thus far.

Edwards, a sophomore from Adelaide, South Australia, led the charge for Boise State at the Cougar Classic, Sept. 24-26, as she raced to the Crimson Bracket singles title with a 6-0 record on the weekend. Edwards was so dominant she took five of six matches in straight sets. The only time she was pushed to a third set match came against teammate Marlena Pietzuch, who fell to Edwards, 4-6, 6-2, 3-0 (retired), in the semifinals.
