New Mexico State 3, San Jose State 0
With a match-high 20 kills, Kayleigh Giddens powered New Mexico State to a quick 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-20) win over San Jose State inside Spartan Gym Thursday evening.
With the win, the Aggies improve to 9-9 on the season and 3-1 in the WAC. San Jose State falls to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
NM State hit .344 against SJSU, recording 47 kills against just 14 errors. On the other side of the net, the Spartans posted 24 kills vs. 18 miscues. The Aggies notched 43 digs, while the Spartans tallied 28.
Jennah DeVries tallied a match-high 35 assists while adding seven digs. Whitney Woods added nine kills, while Ellen Miks led the defense with a match-high 16 digs.
Taylor Japhet led the Spartans with six kills in the match, while Katie Turner and Hanah Blume topped the SJSU defense with six digs apiece.
Nevada 3, Boise State 1
Nevada won its first road match of the season Thursday night, downing Boise State 3-1 (31-33, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21). The win was the third in a row for the Wolf Pack as they improve to 9-8 on the season and 3-1 in WAC play. The Broncos fall to 15-5 and 2-3 in conference action.
Nevada hit .271 in the match and BSU .138. The Pack finished with 13 blocks compared to seven for the Broncos.
Erin Garvey and Kylie Harrington led Nevada with match-highs of 15 kills each. The 15 kills is a new career-high for Garvey. Lindsay Baldwin finished with 12 kills and a match-high eight blocks, while Tatiana Santiago totaled a match-high 53 assists in the match. Harrington had 13 digs and Santiago 11 as they both posted double-doubles. It was Harrington's fourth double-double of the season and Santiago's second. Nicole Link finished with a match-high 20 digs.
Liz Harden and Sadie Maughan totaled 12 kills each to top Boise State, while Alisha Young added 11. Setter Breann Nesselhuf dished out 47 assists. Kersti Whitney and Amanda Remy had 18 and 11 digs, respectively, for the Broncos.
Fresno State 3, Louisiana Tech 0
Fresno State dominated Louisiana Tech for a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-15, 25-23) at the Save Mart Center on Thursday night. With the win, Fresno State improves to 7-9 on the season and 2-3 in WAC play. Louisiana Tech falls to 10-9 on the year and 0-4 in WAC action.
The Bulldogs hit .269 on the match, compared to the .105 of the Lady Techsters. Fresno State also tallied more kills (45-33), assists (43-32), service aces (5-2), digs (61-52) and blocks (8-6).
Marissa Brand led Fresno State with 19 kills, followed by Taylor Horton with 11 kills. Setter Erin Stock dished out 38 assists, while Kelly Mason totaled 23 digs.
Louisiana Tech was led by Taylor Fritz with nine kills and 10 digs. Lori Hunsucker had 16 digs.
