DENVER--Two WAC soccer players have been named to the ESPN Academic All-American team as selected by CoSIDA. Fresno State's Katie Lee and Idaho's Chelsea Small received the honor.
Lee was named second-team Academic All-American. The senior is a 4.0 honors Civil Engineering major and two-year starter. Lee has started 37 games and appeared in 40 games her four year career that included two Western Athletic Conference Tournament titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2010, she was named the WAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Lee spent the last two years anchoring the Bulldog backline and helped record 13 shutouts. She scored her first career goal in the WAC Tournament lifting the Dogs past Utah State and into the championship game. Lee also recorded a total of three assists in her career, one her junior year and two her senior campaign.
Small was also voted a second-team Academic All-America honoree. She holds a cumulative 4.0 grade point average in Secondary Education and broke Idaho's school records this year in single-season points (30), goals (13), game-winning goals (8) and shots (121).
She was named 2010 WAC Offensive Player of the Year this season and is a two-time first-team All-WAC honoree. She finished the season ranked 20th in the NCAA in total goals and also tied the WAC record for conference-season shots (58). She led Idaho to a school-record 14 wins and program-best third-place finish in the WAC.
