DENVER – Fresno State sophomore middle blocker Marissa Brand has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 15-21. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of Brand’s career.

Brand, from Cypress, Calif. (Cypress HS), led the Bulldogs to a pair of victories over Idaho and San Jose State. In the road win at Idaho, Brand paced the Bulldogs with 16 kills and 15 digs for her WAC-leading 12th double-double of the season, her eighth double-double in WAC play. In a sweep over San Jose State, Brand recorded a match-high 14 kills (4.6 kps) for her 19th double-digit performance in kills this season. On the week, Brand recorded 30 kills (4.3 kps) on a .297 hitting percentage and had 21 digs (3.0 dps) as Fresno State needed only seven sets to win a pair of WAC matches.

Other nominees included: Boise State’s Alisha Young had 17 kills in a win … Kanani Danielson had a match-high 18 kills with 12 digs in Hawai‘i’s win over Idaho … Bianca Bin of Louisiana Tech registered a pair of double-doubles at Louisiana Tech went 1-1 … Nevada’s Nicole Link had a career-high 34 digs against LA Tech … New Mexico State’s Kayleigh Giddens had 14 kills and seven digs in a loss to Utah State … Utah State’s Shantell Durrant hit .343 while averaging 2.25 kills and 1.62 blocks in a pair of road wins.
