DENVER--The 2010 women’s soccer All-WAC teams were announced Wednesday night, as selected by the conferences nine head coaches. WAC regular season co-champion, Utah State, led all teams with three players on the conference first team, as well as two on the second team.
Idaho sophomore forward Chelsea Small was named the WAC’s Offensive Player of the Year, while Utah State sophomore defender Natalie Norris received Defensive Player of the Year honors. San Jose State's Kayla Santacruz was named the league’s Freshman of the Year. Idaho's Pete Showler was named Coach of the Year.
Small, a sophomore from Solana Beach, Calif. (Torrey Pines HS), earned her first Player of the Year honor after she scored six goals and added two assists during conference play. Small was named last season’s Freshman of the Year.
Norris, a sophomore from Sandy, Utah (Alta HS), was voted Defensive Player of the Year as she anchored the defense for the Aggies. Norris also received all-WAC first team honors.
Santacruz, a freshman from San Ramon, Calif. (California HS), helped lead San Jose State to the WAC regular season co-championship. Santacruz tallied eight goals and three assists for 19 points during WAC play this season.
Showler, who is in his sixth season, led the Vandals to a school-record five conference victories and 14 overall wins this year. Showler led Idaho to its first-ever WAC tournament appearance in school history.
