MODOC NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Fresno State's Bianca Modoc has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Month for November.

Modoc, a sophomore from Yorba Linda, Calif. (Esperaza HS), went undefeated in singles and doubles play at the Bulldog Classic on Nov. 12-14. Modoc went 3-0 in singles with her most impressive victory, a 6-0, 6-1 domination of Portland State's Kylea Gleason, coming on the first day of competition. Her toughest challenge came on the final day, as she was pushed to three sets before defeating Saint Mary's Laurie Gingras 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. As impressive as Modoc's singles record was, her doubles record was even better. Modoc finished the Bulldog Classic a perfect 5-0 in doubles play, as she paired up with numerous partners throughout the tournament.

BOISE STATE FINISHES FALL PLAY AT LOBO CLASSIC
The Broncos officially concluded their fall schedule at the University of New Mexico Lobo Classic on Nov. 5-7. Boise State had a strong showing as a team, finishing with a 7-7 record in singles and a 4-2 doubles record. Junior Sonia Klamczynska led the way for the Bronco women as she finished 3-1 in singles competition and 3-0 in doubles.

FRESNO STATE STANDS TALL IN LAST FALL TOURNAMENT
The Bulldogs ended their season with a number of great performances at the Bulldog Classic on Nov. 12-14. The team finished with a 26-5 record with freshman Abby Hayley and sophomores Olga Kirpicheva and Bianca Modoc leading the way. Hayley went 4-1 in singles competition and 5-0 in doubles competition with different partners. Kirpicheva also went 5-0 in doubles competition and 2-1 in singles. Modoc had a 3-0 singles record to go along with a 5-0 doubles record.

HAWAI'I FALLS TO NO. 1 STANFORD IN EXHIBITION
The Rainbow Wahine competed in both singles and doubles against national and Pac-10 powerhouse Stanford in an exhibition match Nov. 23. Stanford took all six matches, but Hawai'i came to play. UH junior Barbara Pinterova took No. 21 Mallory Burdette to the wire before falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Fellow junior Magdalena Ploch pushed Kristie Ahn to three sets also in a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 loss. Junior Aglae Van den Bergh eventually succumbed to Amelia Herring, 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-4, in what might have been the hardest fought match of the day.

NEVADA ENDS FALL SEASON AT BULLDOG CLASSIC
Nevada closed out its season in Fresno, Calif., at the Bulldog Classic on Nov. 12-14. True freshman Michelle Okhremchuk concluded what was a strong first fall season by defeating Olga Kirpicheva of host Fresno State 7-5, 6-4.  She finished the weekend 4-0 in singles play. Nevada went a combined 16-0 in ten singles matches and five doubles matches on the first day of the tournament.

WAC IN THE PRESEASON RANKINGS
In the 2010 preseason ITA rankings, the WAC has two doubles teams ranked. Leading the way at No. 48 is Boise State's Lauren Megale and Sonia Klamczynskz, followed by Laura Pola and Olga Kirpicheva of Fresno State at No. 52. There were no singles players from the WAC ranked by the ITA in the preseason.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE
The 2010 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 29-May 1 in Boise, Idaho. Top-seeded Boise State earned its first-ever WAC Women's Tennis Championship last season with a 4-3 win over No. 3-seed Fresno State in the title match. The Broncos' victory ended the Bulldogs streak of eight-straight titles.
