New Mexico State 88, Hawai‘i 64
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State guards Jahmar Young and Jonathan Gibson and forward Troy Gillenwater each scored 18 points in an 88-64 Western Athletic Conference victory over Hawaii on Monday at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.
NMSU shot 11 of 27 (40.7 percent) from 3-point range, leading by as many as 29 with 9:08 left to play. The Aggies scored 28 points off 18 Hawaii turnovers.
Leading 42-27 at halftime, the Aggies (16-9, 9-3 Western Athletic) outscored Hawaii 9-0 to open the second half. The Aggies outscored Hawaii 12-2 in the first five minutes.
Hawaii lost its seventh consecutive game to fall to 9-16 overall and 2-9 in the WAC.
Rainbow Warriors guard Roderick Flemings led Hawaii with 25 points on 8 of 21 shooting as Hawaii was 39 from the field.
The Aggies pulled out to 12-point lead with a 16-4 run over a five-minute period in the first half. NMSU was 6 of 14 in the first half and scored 15 points off nine Hawaii turnovers for a 42-27 halftime lead.
