DENVER - Fresno State's Bhavik Patel and Hawai‘i's Corie Hou have been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for Feb. 8-14.
Patel, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif. (Bakersfield HS), claimed medalist honors at the University of San Diego Callaway Invitational last week. Patel won the tournament by three strokes after shooting 8-under par (69-70-69-208) and was the only player in the field to break par in each of the three rounds. His victory helped the Bulldogs to their second consecutive third-place team finish.
Hou, a senior from Clovelly, Australia (Randwick Girls HS), tied for fifth place at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif. on Sunday. Hou carded an eight-over par 150 (73-77) to lead her teammates for the fourth consecutive tournament. Her 73 in the first round was her low of the season. Hou's fifth place individual finish is the best by any Rainbow Wahine during the 2009-10 season.
