Fresno State 69, Nevada 58
Fresno State won at least a share of the WAC regular-season title with a 69-58 win over second-place Nevada in front of a season-high crowd of 4,069 people at the Save Mart Center Saturday. With the win, the Bulldogs are 22-5 overall and 13-0 in WAC play and have won 14 straight games. Nevada falls to 15-12 overall and 9-4 in the conference.
Rosie Moult led Fresno State in scoring 17 points, while Hayley Munro had 15 and Jaleesa Ross added 12.
Fresno State trailed 38-26 at halftime and 46-31 with 16:55 left in the game. The Bulldogs then went on a 31-4 run to take a 62-50 lead with 3:55 left in the game.
Louisiana Tech 79, Hawai'i 71
Shanavia Dowdell and Adrienne Johnson recorded double-doubles to lead Louisiana Tech to a 79-71 win over Hawaii Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. With the win, Tech improves to 18-6 on the year and 9-3 in the WAC, good for sole possession of second place in the league standings. Hawaii drops to 9-18 overall and 3-11 in conference play.
Tech shot 46 percent (30-of-66) from the field on the game, compared to the 42 percent (30-of-70) of Hawai'i. The Rainbow Wahine became just the second league team to out-rebound Tech all season, as they led 41-38, including 17 offensive boards.
Dowdell notched her 17th double-double of the season (and 10th straight) with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Johnson recorded her fifth with 20 points and 11 boards.
Keisha Kanekoa led Hawai'i with 16 points, while Julita Bungaite added 13 points and Katie Wilson had 12.
Idaho 60, New Mexico State 59
Idaho rallied from down nine with 10 minutes to play to knock off New Mexico State 60-59 Saturday afternoon at the Cowan Spectrum. With the win, the Vandals improve to 7-18 overall and 5-7 in the WAC. The Aggies fall to 16-11 on the year and 6-7 in conference play.
The Vandals shot 36 percent from the field, 18 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Aggies connected on 46 percent from the field, 22 percent from downtown and 75 percent from the charity stripe. Idaho won the rebounding battle, 37-35, and committed just nine turnovers to NM State's 15.
Yinka Olorunnife finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her 16th career double-double. Rachele Kloke had 15 points, Charlotte Otero added 14 and Shaena Kuehu had 12.
Crystal Boyd led all players with 20 points, while Tabytha Wampler added a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards for NM State.
Boise State 80, San Jose State 62
Boise State snapped an eight-game road losing skid with an 80-62 win over San Jose State at the Event Center Saturday night. With the win, the Broncos improve to 17-9 overall and 6-6 in league, good for sole possession of fourth place in the WAC standings. San Jose State falls to 6-20 overall and 2-11 in league.
Boise State shot 46 percent (25-of-55) from the floor, 25 percent (3-of-12) from three-point range and 77 percent (27-of-35) from the free throw line. San Jose State hit 34 percent (21-of-61) from the floor, 19 percent (3-of-16) from downtown and 77 percent (17-of-22) from the charity stripe.
Rebecca Kepilino led the Broncos with a season-high 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. Tasha Harris followed with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Janie Bos added 12 points, a team-high seven rebounds, four assists and one block.
San Jose State was led by Chasity Shavers with a career-high 34 points. Sayja Sumler added 12 points, six boards and four assists.
