Fresno State 81, Louisiana Tech 78 (OT)
The Bulldogs won the WAC regular-season title outright Wednesday by beating Louisiana Tech 81-78 in overtime. Fresno State has won 15 straight games and is 23-5 overall and 14-0 in WAC play. Louisiana Tech falls to 18-7 overall and 9-4 in the conference.
Fresno State shot 45 percent from the floor while Louisiana Tech shot 37 percent. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 23 times and had 45 rebounds to the Lady Techsters 15 turnovers and 47 rebounds.
LaShay Fears led the Bulldogs with a career-high 22 points. Emma Andrews had 16 points off the bench, while Hayley Munro had 11 points and tied her career-high of 13 rebounds. Joh-Teena Filipe added 11 points and six rebounds.
Tarkeisha Wysinger scored a career-high 25 points, while Shanavia Dowdell recorded her 18th double-double of the year with 17 points and a career-high tying 20 rebounds. Jasmine Bendolph added 15 points.
Hawai'i 66, Boise State 64
Hawai’i held off Boise State for a 66-64 victory Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. With the win, the Rainbow Wahine improve to 10-18 overall and 4-11 in WAC action. Boise State falls to 17-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
The win also moves UH closer to clinching a spot in the WAC Tournament. The Rainbow Wahine are two games ahead of San Jose State in the win column. The Rainbow Wahine have one game remaining, while San Jose State has two games left.
The Rainbow Wahine shot 44 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range and 61 percent from the free throw line on the game. Boise State connected on 40 percent from the field, 32 percent from downtown and 64 percent from the charity stripe. UH out-rebounded the Broncos 42-32.
Dita Liepkalne scored a game-high 17 points, including a career-high four three-pointers. Liepkalne was also two points shy of tying her career-high. Julita Bungaite added 13 points, Breanna Arbuckle had 11 points and Allie Patterson scored 10 points. Arbuckle recorded her second career double-double, as she also pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds.
Janie Bos led the Broncos with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Rebecca Kepilino added 12 points.
Idaho 74, San Jose State 59
The Vandals defeated San Jose State 74-59 Wednesday in WAC action. With the win, the Vandals improve to 8-18 overall and 6-7 in the WAC. The Spartans drop to 6-21 on the year and 2-12 in conference play.
Idaho shot 39 percent from the floor, 42 percent from beyond the arc and 71 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Spartans, meanwhile, connected on 37 percent from the field, 15 percent from downtown and 73 percent from the charity stripe on the game. SJSU out-rebounded the Vandals 44-36.
Shaena Kuehu led Idaho with a team-best 16 points to go with five rebounds, four steals and a career-high six assists. Rachele Kloke accounted for 15 points, while Charlotte Otero finished with 12. Natasha Helsham came off the bench for 11 points and junior Yinka Olorunnife had 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Spartans were led by Chasity Shavers, who scored all 16 of her points in the second half. Marnesha Hall joined her in double-figures, tying a season-high with 11 points.
