DENVER – Utah State’s Mike Pyrtle and Boise State’s Zacharias Arnos were named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of February 1-7.

Pyrtle, a junior from Ocala, Fla. (Merritt College), set a new Utah State school record in winning the 60 meters in 6.69 seconds (6.71 altitude venue conversion) at the New Mexico Classic over the weekend. Pyrtle's time is an NCAA provisional mark, as well as the fastest in the WAC and a new personal record. Pyrtle's mark betters the Utah State school record in the 60m by .03, as the previous mark of 6.72 was posted by DJ Smith in 2006.

Arnos, a senior from Nicosia, Greece (Archbishop Mauarios III Lyceum), won both the long jump and triple jump at the United Heritage Invitational last weekend. Arnos produced his second NCAA Provisional mark in the triple jump of 52-6.50 (16.01m) which is tenth in the nation and just 5.50 inches (14 cm) away from the NCAA Automatic mark. The senior also reached an NCAA Provisional mark in the long jump for the first time this season, clearing a distance of 24-9.25 (7.55m) to win the long jump and surpass the qualifying mark by 5 centimeters.

Other track nominees included: Boise State’s Eric Capelle and Idaho’s Paul Dittmer.

Other field nominees included: Idaho’s Lucas Pope and Utah State’s Clint Silcock.
