DENVER – Louisiana Tech first baseman Alex Williams and Hawai‘i pitcher Lenny Linsky have been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for February 22-28.
Williams, a sophomore from Vick, La. (Holy Savior Menard Central HS), helped Louisiana Tech to a 3-1 record last week. Williams hit a pair of key home runs, including a walk-off shot in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat McNeese State 8-7. He also delivered a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to help the Bulldogs to an 8-5 victory in the series finale against McNeese State. On the week, Williams hit .538 (7-for-13) with six runs, seven RBI, two doubles, two walks and a pair of home runs.
Linsky, a sophomore from Palos Verdes, Calif. (Peninsula HS), made three appearances, earning three saves in UH’s wins over No. 25 Oregon. Linsky started with a two-inning save, striking out three without giving up a run, hit or walk. He then allowed one hit in a one inning save before coming in to record the final two outs in the win. On the week, Linsky recorded three saves in 5.1 innings of work with five strike outs while giving up only one hit.
