DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference had four individuals score at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, last weekend. Boise State’s Zacharias Arnos earned All-American honors in the men’s triple jump, and Hawai‘i’s Amber Kaufman claimed All-American honors in the women’s high jump. Idaho’s Jeremy Klas and Mykael Bothum earned All-American honors in the men’s pole vault (Klas) and the women’s shot put (Bothum).
For the women, Hawai‘i junior Amber Kaufman placed second in the nation in the women’s high jump, clearing a height of 1.90 meters (6-2.75) for her fourth-career track and field All-American honor. The silver is Kaufman’s second medal in as many national championships. At the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships also in Fayetteville, Ark., the two-sport All-American finished third. Idaho senior Mykael Bothum finished sixth in the women’s shot put with a toss of 16.55m (54-3.75). It was Bothum’s second-consecutive NCAA sixth-place finish at the indoor championship as well as her second-career All-American honor.
For the men, Boise State senior Zacharias Arnos placed eighth in the triple jump with a near lifetime-best leap of 16.04m (52-7.50) to earn his first All-American honor. Arnos is a two-time qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, but participated in his first-ever indoor championships on Saturday. Idaho sophomore Jeremy Klas cleared 5.25m (17-2.75) in the men's pole vault to tie for ninth in his first career national meet. Klas earned his honor by being one of the top eight Americans in his event.
For the women’s team scores, Hawai‘i earned eight points to tie for 28th place with Indiana, Washington, Connecticut, Maryland and TCU, while Idaho captured three points to tie for 46th place with Seton Hall, Syracuse, Dayton, Kansas and Houston. For the men, Boise State finished with one point to tie for 60th place with Oklahoma State and Texas.
